Caught Without a Backup? You Can Recover Lost Files
We all know how important it is to backup data files however even those with the best intentions tend to put it off. While it's not difficult to backup your data, it is tedious at times unless you have an automatic system in place with a large capacity to store all of your huge files.
What happens when you lose data and you realize that the last time you backed up your data was over six months ago? Sure, you could recover some of your data but what about all of the new information? New invoices, new customer histories, new financial data, new reports, new digital pictures, new MP3 files, new documents, new research, new notes, and everything you've added since the last backup is lost.
Or is it? Data recovery services and software solutions can help you recover lost files even if you're caught without a backup. These solutions are so sophisticated that they can recover lost files after a reformatting of the disk!
Keep in mind that while you can recover lost files using data recovery technology it's not always possible to retrieve everything. You may lose numerous files. The reason it's not foolproof is because of the way deleted data is handled by the operating system. When you delete a file you are telling Windows that you don't want it anymore. Windows takes you at your word though it gives you one last chance to change your mind via the Recycle Bin.
After you empty the Recycle Bin, you are confirming to Windows that you don't want the file anymore. At this point, Windows is free to do away with the file in question. Windows removes all traces of it from its master index but doesn't actually erase the file. The file remains in a state of limbo: not really available yet not really gone yet. When Windows needs disk space, it considers the space that your deleted file is occupying as free space which means it is fair game for being written over. After all, you've deleted it and you have emptied the Recycle Bin.
During this time when your data is in limbo and hasn't yet been overwritten, you can use software to recover lost files. Data recovery software can recover lost files under several circumstances including deletion as described above. Data lost to disk formatting, computer viruses, unexpected shutdowns, computer errors, power surges, failing hard drives, and sabotage is also possible.
When you are experiencing data loss, don't let anything write to the disk in question or you could wind up with permanent data loss. Look for a data recovery tool that boots from floppy or CD rather than one that must be installed on the disk drive.
Once you recover lost files, you'll have your data back and you will have learned a valuable lesson. It is possible to recover lost files but that doesn't mean you can neglect your data backup routine. Don't get caught without a backup again. If you do, use data recovery software.
